Leap Of Faith

Updated: May 3

This might not be talked about enough but we frequently find ourselves in situations where

we tend to question our abilities due to questionable comments passed around by others; for context, I am referring to scenarios where we are unable to meet our expectations; resulting in us questioning our self-worth and capabilities.

We find ourselves in a loop of negative self-talk where we tend to be completely blindsided. At times, it gets to the point where we end up doubting every decision we have made; overshadowed by those around us, believing that we are in a position where we don’t have much to look forward to. It seems as if the world around us is moving forward, meanwhile, we are stuck in the same place we were before. In reality, that is not the case.

People who are perfectionists and struggle with a negative self-image tend to perceive themselves with a narrow lens; focusing on the components of their disposition that are shunned by themselves and others. They tend to believe that they are doomed from the start, hence, every mistake they have made becomes a part of who they are and they find it difficult to deviate from that negative perception of themselves. Having a support system at home or in your social circle might help put things into perspective, however, as harsh as it sounds, a part of growing up and being an adult is the fact that in many instances, you have to fight your battles alone because no one can understand what is truly in your mind.

People might scoff or question you for being ‘delusional’ which is worse for someone who is already struggling to keep up with their environment. Hence, it is essential for you as an individual to recognize where your thought process might be heading, filter out the thoughts that might be irrational, and take those steps forward. Being a perfectionist, I have frequently found myself in a situation where I tend to lose sight of who I am due to the fear of not being good enough but it is a struggle that you have to endure and cater to become the person you want to be. Take a few moments for yourself and open your eyes to what the world has to offer; widen that lens of yours and it will start to make sense.

Just remember; it is always in that first step where you tend to lose your balance; it doesn’t mean that you should not take that leap of faith. Life is not supposed to be easy but every obstacle and every moment of struggle allows us to grow and develop. It is in these moments of weakness that we find our capabilities and what makes us different from others. The journey itself is not easy and it’s not meant to be easy; you are meant to be challenged and at times quite overwhelmed but that is what makes your story worth telling because when you reach the point of success, you can recognize the work that you had to put in to reach that destination. It is in these moments you realize that you took the right step.
